What If You Flipped the Script on Health?
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by all the conflicting advice on how to be healthy? Keto vs. Paleo, HIIT vs. yoga, supplements vs. meds—it can get confusing fast. But what if, instead of starting with what you should do, you asked:
“What would I do if I wanted the worst possible health?”
There is a powerful mental model to simplify your health journey: identify the destructive habits—and do the opposite. It should be noted that this isn’t just a tactic for health, though, it can be used in any area of your life, however, we are going to focus on health today.
Why Movement = Life
Death is the cessation of motion. That’s not just poetic—it’s biological.
- Blood flows to deliver oxygen and remove waste.
- Nerves fire to control your muscles, emotions, and organs.
- Joints move to push out waste and pull in nutrients.
- Even at the cellular level, membranes must move substances in and out for survival.
If motion slows, so does life.
When we stop that movement, that’s where we see a loss of health.
Whether it’s heart disease, stroke, MS, or chronic pain, the common denominator is a breakdown in movement and communication within the body.
So What Blocks Movement?
There are a multitude of “health killers”:
- Injuries that go unaddressed
- Lack of physical activity (it was recently shown that this isn’t just sedentary jobs, but also occurs in those that workout regularly, but still sit for extended periods of time, so sitting really is the enemy in this regard)
- Poor diet that creates systemic inflammation
- Sleep deprivation
- Chronic stress
Each one creates resistance to healthy motion—inside and out.
Now, flip it.
The Reverse Strategy: Do the Opposite
Want to build real, foundational health? Stack the odds in your favor:
- Eat clean: quality meats, fruits, vegetables—skip the processed junk.
- Move daily: from strength training to brain-engaging walks or new routines.
- Sleep deeply and consistently: no screens, stretch, hydrate, and create a routine.
- Lower stress: chiropractic care is always a first stop in this (as it stimulates the areas of the brain that dampen the stress response, putting logic back into control of your decisions), but you may also try bioenergetic sessions or functional neurology-based techniques.
- Stay hydrated: even minor dehydration slows everything down.
These are not quick fixes. They’re foundational strategies—the kind we’ve helped thousands apply right here at Better Life Chiropractic & Wellness.
Apply It to ANY Goal
As mentioned above, this framework doesn’t just work for health – it can be applied to areas within health or outside of it. For example, are you trying to be more focused? Ask: “What would destroy my focus?” (Probably doom scrolling, poor sleep, and cluttered environments.)
Then: do the opposite.
Trying to have more energy? Ask: “What drains me?” Then: avoid those things and build your vitality habits.
Final Thought from Dr. Cumro
It may seem morbid, but it gives you clarity. Knowing what destroys something makes it obvious what builds it.
