Have you ever thought about what stress does to your body? I think we all realize that stress takes a terrible toll on our bodies, but just how much of a toll does it take. Nebraska City Chiropractic treats stress.

Many people associate stress with gaining weight, getting gray hair and wrinkles. This however is just a look at the outward signs of stress. Looking at the mechanism for how those things happen allows us a much deeper look at WHY those things happen and gives us a truer picture of why it is important to avoid it.

In general, stress leads to a change in your autonomic nervous system, which is similar to a thermostat. If your body needs more of something one side of the nervous system will activate a little more to turn it on, whereas if you need less, the other side will bring it down (if things are working the way that they are supposed to). Unfortunately, stress doesn’t allow this to work as well. Imagine someone turning your thermostat up to 90 or down to 40.

What we see when the autonomic nervous system is performing correctly is a brain that is in balance (this leads to a body that is in balance). When we see a dysfunctional autonomic nervous system, brain IMBALANCE is present (and so is body imbalance). This is the basis of chiropractic, and our treatments in general.

What we do with adjustments and exercises is stimulate certain parts of the brain and body to get them working the way that they should be. Imagine going to the gym. If you are really strong in bench press and can’t do a pullup, you are going to have some imbalance, right? Do you think you need to work more on getting your bench press even higher, or getting better at pullups to pull yourself out of this imbalance?

This is why we do the testing that we do. We work to find the areas that are not functioning as well as they should be, helping you target those areas which minimizes the imbalance between areas and improving your overall health.

This is why chiropractic is such a powerful tool for the treatment of autoimmune disease, dizziness/light-headedness, sleep apnea, post-concussion treatments, high blood pressure and a host of other issues that people don’t normally associate with chiropractic care.

Unfortunately, many people just want to go get a cover-up for their malfunction. Medications may prevent you from feeling the effects non-stop, but they are just going to allow your condition to get worse over time. Why do you think we have doubled the number of people needing adult diapers in the past decade or two? Why do you think we have so many more cases of Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease than we did a couple decades ago? Why do you think obesity is such a huge problem (fast foods don’t help, but it isn’t just the calories that are doing this to us)?

Take a stand against this epidemic. Don’t allow yourself to become a statistic. Stress will never go away, but preparing your body to better handle that stress is something we can take action on. Call us today and see how chiropractic can make your life better. Nobody else can do it for you.
